Civics Suffering

Need more evidence that the onslaught of mandatory testing under No Child Left Behind is negatively affecting students’ opportunities to become well-rounded thinkers? A Carnegie-Knight Task Force survey of 1,250 5th-12th grade civics, government, and social studies teachers found that teaching to the test is leaving educators too little time for civics education. Among the resources being left behind: use of current events to enhance lessons.
