Harrisburg Science Teacher Lands Position on NEA's Executive Committee
Los Angeles - Rebecca "Becky" Pringle, a physical science teacher at Susquehanna Township Middle School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was elected today to the National Education Association (NEA) Executive Committee. She was elected to lead the nation's largest professional employee organization by more than 9,000 delegates attending the Association's Representative Assembly, meeting July 4-7 in Los Angeles, California.
Pringle used her candidacy to call for greater advocacy and action on the part of NEA members, whom she dubbed "the guardians of public education."
"NEA has to be a leader in turning low performing schools into high performing schools and in training leaders that are prepared to function in new ways," she said.
Pringle, a teacher with 25 years classroom experience, has held Association positions at the national, state and local levels. She was elected to the Pennsylvania State Education Association Board of Directors and most recently served as an NEA board member.
Pringle and her husband, Nathan, reside in Harrisburg and have two children.
The NEA Executive Committee consists of nine members - three executive officers and six members elected at large by the Representative Assembly. Pringle will serve a three-year term starting in September.
