NEA Earns 'New Media' Awards
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- It's All About Kids--a CD-ROM produced by the National Education Association (NEA)--is the winner of the highest honor for new media in the New England Broadcasting Association's 18th Annual Best of Broadcasting awards. The NEA CD-ROM, distributed free to new teachers, received the gold award for the most effective new media. The association's "best of" awards recognized excellence in television, radio, and new media communication.
NEA's It's All About Kids aims to help new K-12 teachers and teacher aides survive their difficult, rewarding, and challenging first year in the classroom, by offering helpful advice on how to inspire and challenge students, implement classroom rules, and work effectively with parents. The multi-media, interactive CD-ROM provides an array of strategies for gaining critical traction and overcoming the challenges first-year teachers face.
Nominations for this prestigious award came from television and radio stations as well as ad agencies in the New England region.
"Technology provides a wealth of new resources to help our teachers succeed," notes NEA President Bob Chase. "NEA is making it a top priority to give teachers the tools to tap this critical resource to better serve students for the future."
In addition to the CD-ROM, NEA offers useful information about education
and education technology via its Web site. The technology section of the NEA site (http://www.nea.org/cet/BITSNBYTES/bitsnbytes.html) has won kudos from top search engine Infoseek and from on-line peers such as The Argus Clearinghouse and the South Central Regional Technology in Education Consortium.
In the December issue of Yahoo!'s Internet Life magazine, NEA's Web site is given a four-star rating as a "comprehensive resource for general information about all levels of instruction...there are several outstanding features for teachers and parents."
