Becky Fleischauer Joins News Media Services Team At National Education Association

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Becky Fleischauer, former television journalist and Capitol Hill press secretary, has joined the National Education Association (NEA)as a senior professional associate, Kate Mattos, director of NEA Communications, announced today.

Fleischauer's responsibilities will include aiding in the development and implementation of the association's media relations activities, working with capital news correspondents on education issues, and assisting education reporters across the country.

Immediately prior to joining NEA's News Media Services on Nov. 23, Fleischauer served as manager of media relations at the National Governors' Association in Washington, D.C., for 2 1/2 years. There, in addition to formulating NGA's press strategies, she served as its liaison to governors' press secretaries. She helped promote the association's Center for Best Practices, a program designed to allow governors to share their most successful state-level innovations.

Fleischauer came to the nation's capital in 1994 as State Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), after working for three years as a reporter/producer at WDAY-TV in Fargo, N.D.

A native of Wahpeton, N. D., she attended Wahpeton Senior High School and graduated with honors from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., earning degrees in English and Mass Communications. She has completed course work in a graduate program in Communications at North Dakota State University in Fargo.

Among Fleischauer's avocations are serving as a reading mentor at a Washington, D.C., elementary school, swimming, and running. She completed the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., and is training for next year's marathon competition in Big Sur, Calif.

Her parents, Keith and Sharon Fleischauer, reside in Ottertail Lake, Minn., where they operate a heating and air conditioning business.
