The melting pot
National partners and supporters
Your participation in Read Across America will be most successful if your activities are cooked to order for the children of your community. NEA and its Read Across America partners can help you with some of the ingredients!
- Does your school or community include children of color? Look for opportunities with the NAACP, the Organization of Chinese Americans, the National Council of La Raza, ASPIRA, the National Association of Bilingual Education, or the League of United Latin American Citizens.
- Looking for ways to get books into the hands of children? Contact Reading is Fundamental, First Book, Reach Out and Read, the Heart of America Foundation, your local library, or local Friends of the Library.
- Need help providing reading activities for preschoolers or want to reach out to this population? Try the National Head Start Association, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, or Zero to Three (National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families).
- Need some ideas for connecting with reluctant readers? Try Book Adventure, Cable in the Classroom, Major League Soccer, the WGBH Educational Foundation, and PBS.
All of NEA's Read Across America partners have something to offer that will add spice to your reading events and sustenance to your efforts to support children's literacy. Contact these national organizations or their local chapters or affiliates to get things cookin' in your community.
