Things You Should Know
About NEA's Read Across America
The National Education Association annually sponsors NEA's Read Across America. Now approaching its eighth year, the program focuses the country's attention on how important it is to motivate children to read, in addition to helping them master basic skills.
Here are a few facts to keep in mind as you share this popular event with your audience.
- We will celebrate the NINTH annual NEA's Read Across America day on March 2, 2006.
- NEA's Read Aross America is the biggest one-day literacy celebration in the U.S., if not the world. On March 2, 2005, there were reading events in all 50 states (as well as several foreign countries) that attracted nearly 45 million readers of all ages. This year we're expecting even more!
- YOUR readers can participate in NEA's Read Across America activities in a number of ways:
- They can find out what's happening in their community by visiting our States pages.
- They can use the reading tips in this directory to start their kids on the road to becoming life-long readers.
- They can check out our favorite book lists to help them choose fun and age-appropriate books for their children.
- They can make time every day for reading with their kids.
