Report gives educators another voice to use to protect students

Although they may be disappointed with the U.S. Senate’s failure to pass comprehensive school safety legislation last week, educators nationwide are vowing to continue to fight and acknowledging that protecting our students and public schools from gun violence will be a long battle.

The VIVA (Voices Ideas Vision Action) Idea Exchange is one way NEA has lifted up members’ voices and recommendations on this critical issue.

Over the past 3 months, hundreds of members participated in this online pilot project, sharing ideas and having conversations with each other. From there, VIVA selected 11 educators to join the writing of the detailed report “Sensible Solutions for Safe Schools.” (pdf)

Our thoughts are with Colleen Ritzer's family, students and colleagues.

The Massachusetts Teachers Association  and our colleagues at the National Education Association are closely monitoring this terrible situation. As we grieve for Colleen, we are doing everything we can to support students, fellow educators and parents.
