NEA supports right of all
IEP team members to participate

NEA supports the right of teachers, related service providers, and paraeducators to advocate on behalf of students with disabilities. To that end, NEA members need to have the opportunity to participate in IEP meetings for students who are or will be in their classes.

NEA opposed initial positions in both House and Senate bills that allowed IEP team members to be excluded from meetings by other team members. NEA argued that any excusal from participation must be optional. The Senate version was revised to reflect NEA's view on this issue.
