Outreach to Teach: Project Ideas
Host a Pajama Party: Invite a local day care center (3-and 4-year-olds) to join younger elementary children for a pajama party at the local library. Children can come in pajamas carrying their favorite plush animal or blanket. NEA student members can provide a one-hour reading of selected children's books. Readers can dress as characters from the books, or even act out parts of the book for entertainment.
Senior Citizen Clean Up: Provide a one-week "student on call" service for senior citizens. Students can do small jobs such as raking leaves, washing windows, and helping with seasonal house cleaning.
Coordinate Campus Visits: Invite high school students who are interested in becoming educators to visit your campus and attend one of your regular meetings. You could also invite them to attend a state meeting.
Sell Food: Sell food as a fundraiser during special community events.
Have a Yard Sale: Team up with another campus organization and conduct a yard or garage sale.
Host a Campus Networking Event: Plan a general chapter meeting with a guest speaker or special interest topic and invite other campus educational organizations to attend.
Start a Newsletter: Create a newsletter to keep members and the college community informed about the meeting and upcoming community and college events.
Volunteer with The Special Olympics: Provide an opportunity to work with special needs students. Students at this event could also raise funds by selling food and beverages.
Tutor Students: Volunteer to tutor "at-risk" students who local elementary, middle, and high schools.
Read Out Loud: Volunteer to read to people at local hospitals and nursing homes.
