Bullying Prevention Week, October 5–11
Free Downloadable Poster & Other Resources
Sponsored by the PACER Center—a parent center for families of children and young adults with disabilities—and cosponsored by NEA, the National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education, and National PTA, this weeklong event encourages communities to work together to increase awareness of the prevalence and impact of bullying on children.
A classroom tool kit with free downloads of daily activities, games, and contests is available at www.pacerkidsagainstbullying.org.
The PACER Web site aims to educate elementary students about bullying prevention and provide methods for responding to bullying situations. It features an animated cast of characters, celebrity videos, "Webisodes," games, a contest, and other activities and information. Parents and professionals will find helpful tips, intervention strategies, and resources for use at home and school. A Web area for teens is also in the works, and you can help by encouraging teens to submit videos, stories, poems, artwork, or audio clips expressing their ideas on bullying prevention.
You can support anti-bullying work in the following ways:
- Promote the Web site as a bullying prevention resource for elementary-age children, including those with disabilities.
- Download and share a colorful poster (PDF file).
- Use the Tool Kit for Elementary School Classrooms—features free downloads of daily activities, games, and contests.
- Let the public hear the message, "Bullying is never okay. What can you do to stop it?"
