Developing Winners in Sports & Life
Positive Coaching Alliance, a national non-profit based at Stanford University, is creating a movement to transform the culture of youth sports so that every young athlete can have a positive, character-building experience.
Promoting a different approach to child sport, Positive Coaching Alliance is the idea of Jim Thompson, who maintains three coaching goals:
- Help players redefine what it means to be a winner by focusing on effort and improvement, rather than on the scoreboard.
- Fill players emotional tanks by using encouragement to help them play their best.
- Honor the game by showing respect for the rules, opponents, officials, teammates, and game tradition.
