School Employee's Guide to GLBT Issues
NEA Publication Promotes a School Environment Free from Intimidation
NEA believes that a great public school is a fundamental right of every child. And that includes a safe school free from intimidation and harassment. NEA's second edition of Strengthening the Learning Environment: A School Employee’s Guide to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues (2006) provides resources to accomplish this goal.
The guide was developed to help Association members and staff who may confront issues involving gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) students or colleagues, or who may encounter bias based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
This second edition was written to incorporate changes and developments in information, resources, and the law that have taken place since 1999, when the guide was originally published, and to address the needs of not only students but school employees as well.
