I am currently a substitute teacher. I just downloaded the material and can't wait to read it. Maintaining discipline as a sub is difficult at times. I look forward to learning new strategies that will help me in this area. What I have perused so far promises to make this a good read. I love the additional resources listed at the end.

I haven't read this yet, but in my many,many years of experience It's all about the 1st day, letting them know who's boss and your expectations and the steps of consequences (discipline) if your expectations are not met.

Terry's comment caught me and I looked back. I just read the intro and it reads, "keeping kids on task," not "on track". I am in favor of on task learning.

The interesting material is more than offset by that old, unlovely attitude toward students. "Keep them on track?" What are they, trains? Racehorses? Whatever they are, the implication is that they are our--their teachers' inferiors. Before we attempt any other wonderful reforms, let's see ourselves, students and teachers, as equals, fellow sufferers and explorers on the only track worth following, The Path of Learning.
