FossWeb is the official website for the inquiry-based FOSS (Full Option Science System) science curriculum. It features interactive modules for grades K-2, 3-6, and 6-8. Each module includes media, FAQs, and teacher and parent information. Note: free registration is required.
Grades K-2 offers 12 modules on animals, plants, weather, and physical science. In the Solids and Liquids Module, students are asked to drag solids and liquids to an oven or freezer to learn what happens to them. Under media is a reading of chapters on solids and liquids and an audio glossary. Teacher resources include teaching notes, prep videos, taking science outside, duplication masters, and more.
Grades 3-6 offers 20 modules. In the Physics of Sound Module, students learn how sound is made and how it travels through different materials. The activity lets students compare how sound travels in air and water. In the Levers and Pulleys Module students learn about the six simple machines. In this activity students adjust four components of a Rube Goldberg device to catch a burglar.
Grades 6-8 offers nine courses. Teachers must register to access the multimedia materials. Registration is free. Each course includes Planet FOSS, which gives students an opportunity to take and share digital science photographs. A course summary and resources are available for teachers and parents.
