The Story of Stuff
The Story of Stuff Project produces short online movies and other resources that explore key features of our relationship with stuff.
So far, eight Movies examine sustainability, national debt, corporate power and democracy, electronics, cosmetics, bottled water, and cap and trade. The first video, The Story of Stuff, is a twenty-minute examination of production and consumption and their impacts on environmental and social issues that ends with a challenge to create a more sustainable system. The second video, The Story of Change, describes how a sustainable system could be fashioned.
In addition, Podcasts feature interviews with people who have made a change. Nine episodes (12-20 minutes) address issues as diverse as a kids’ campaign to encourage Crayola to take responsibility for their unrecyclable marker tubes and a growing movement to repair, rather than replace, stuff.
Free Learning Resources For All Ages provides links to support materials, for example a reading guide for The Story of Stuff ( PDF, 454 KB, 12 pgs.). Some of the links are problematic. This may be a temporary website house-cleaning issue.
Downloads include annotated scripts, movie files, and images that can be used on your own website or blogor printed for classroom display.
