Explorations Through Time
Explorations Through Time is a collection of eight interactive modules for K-4, 5-8, and 9-12 students that explore the history of life on Earth and focus on the processes of science. Each module has lesson plans and teacher’s guide.
The module Life Has a History teaches about geologic time, fossils, ancestral relationships, cladograms, variation, natural selection, and extinction. It has two levels, Level 1 for K-4 and Level 2 for 5-12 and a teacher’s guide. Though the module is suitable for all grades, it requires some advanced reading and might be best shown on a whiteboard and read aloud for younger students.
What Did T-Rex Taste Like? is for grades 9-12 but can be adapted for grades 5-8. There are separate access points for teachers and students. The module provides an introduction to cladistics, a means of classifying animals and plants according to the proportion of measurable characteristics that they have in common. The module proposes hypotheses about past life based upon evolutionary history.
The Arthropod Story examines the evolution of arthropods and covers taxonomy, paleontology, natural history and principles of evolution. The module is for grades 5-8 but can be adapted for grades 9-12.
