Museum of Science and Industry features a number of resource collections. Classroom Activities are aligned to Illinois and national learning standards in science and can be searched by grade level (K-12) and topic. Online Science has games and apps, videos, and activities.

In Simple Machines, students in grades 3-8 can help Twitch, a minion-like character, create simple machines from found objects so that he can collect spare robot parts. Twitch has four tasks requiring the use of an incline plane, lever, wheel and axle, and pulley. Students have to choose angles, fulcrum placement, wheel size, and pulley arrangement to recover each robot part and expend as little energy as possible. In the process, students learn that simple machines trade distance for force to do work. Each task allows for multiple attempts. Once students have completed the activity, they can download wallpapers featuring Twitch.

With goREACT students in grades 5-8 can click on elements in the Periodic Table to learn what they are, drag elements to the reaction area to observe virtual chemical reactions, reconfigure the Periodic Table to discover other aspects of the elements’ chemical properties, and more. Seven featured areas highlight elements and explain what compound is created and how it is used. goReact can be played online or as a mobile app.
