SFSKids: Fun with Music introduces K-4 students to musical instruments and music.

Instruments of the Orchestra presents the four families of instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion) and highlights each family member. In the woodwind family, the entry for the bassoon, for example, includes a standard and QTVR image, description, and audio clip.

The Music Lab offers a music primer, covering the basics of musical notation, tempo, rhythm, pitch, harmony, symbols, and instrumentation. The Performalator lets students use their computer keyboard to play six songs, from Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star to the theme from Shubert’s Symphony #8. A link lets students hear the tune played on the website’s Radio. The Composerizer gives students seven measures of notes to listen to and to arrange and rearrange to make original tunes.

The Radio provides playlists with 36 audio clips featuring music by Mozart, Richard Strauss, Sergei Prokofiev, Edvard Grieg and others. Each audio clip includes information about the music.

Send a Postcard offers six music theme postcards to send via email.

What’s Up at the Symphony highlights four San Francisco Symphony programs for teachers, students, and families that live in the Bay Area.
