The Arts in Every Classroom: A Workshop for Elementary School Teachers
The Arts in Every Classroom: A Workshop for Elementary School Teachers presents eight programs to introduce key concepts about the arts and arts education. The workshop is for classroom teachers and art specialist teachers and includes video and text resources.
Support Materials can be downloaded as a complete package or in individual sections. Teacher Talk is an email discussion list. Workshop participants and content guides participate in the discussion list. Lesson plans and support materials are available in PDF format.
The first four programs include lessons with activities that integrate theatre, music, dance, and visual art. For example, Program 2, Responding to the Arts, explores two performance pieces employing different media and from different eras. The program unit includes background information and materials, suggestions for preparing to watch the video, focus questions for viewing, activities and discussion questions, homework, supplementary activities, and an outline for an extended workshop.
Programs 5 through 8 outline step-by-step process for developing a multi-arts curriculum unit with plans and support materials. For example, Program 7 illustrates how the ideas were applied in three elementary schools: Three Schools, Three Approaches. The participating teachers and principals reflect on the experience.
