The GLOBE Teacher's Guide

Found in: science, preK-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12

The GLOBE Teacher's Guide is a collection of information resources and K-12 activities about Earth. Resources are organized under five heading: Earth as a system, atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and Pedosphere (soil). Sections under each heading are available as PDFs. A Teacher’s Guide Search is found for each section and allows for keyword/title searching and filtering by language, grade level, time, standards, documents, and protocols.

As an example, the first heading Earth As A System includes general documents, an appendix, and GPS documents. The Earth As A System Introduction ( PDF, 11.6 MB, 36 pgs.) presents the big picture with maps and charts. Earth as a system Learning Activities includes a number of summaries and introductions, as well as activities like Comparing the Study Site to One in Another Region  ( PDF, 531 KB, 22 pgs.) for grades 6-12. Students compare a diagram of their study site with a diagram developed for a region that is biogeographically different than their own to deepen their understanding of Earth as a system and their appreciation of diagrams as tools.

A section For Students includes Be A Scientist that outlines the steps in the scientific process and research report format. Students will also find Puzzles and Games that features onsite Earth quizzes and offsite puzzles and games from NASA, EPA, NOAA, and others.
