Earth Science Week’s Classroom Activities to supplement K-12 Earth and general science can be searched and filtered by grade level and tag or by the

Water Filtration (K-12) Groups of 2-3 students design a water filtration system using any three of the materials provided: oil, gravel, potting soil, cotton balls, scrap material, charcoal, sand, woodchips, etc.

Sky and Cloud Windows  (3-8) Students make a sky and cloud window frame with cardboard and maintain a record of sky observations.

A Bit of Engineering  (5-8) Students work in small groups to simulate drilling a core sample from the ocean floor using stacked peanut butter and jelly sandwich squares or other materials as the substrata. They experiment with three coring tools to determine which produces the best core sample.

Energy Efficiency  (6-12) Students record temperatures above ground and “underground” to observe the different rates of decrease in temperature the insulating properties of soil. A temperature recording form is included.
