Bottle Biology describes how K-6 students and teachers can use soda bottles and other recyclable containers to explore science and the environment.

Bottle Basics  explains how to prepare plastic beverage bottles and how to cut and join them to make nested hanging bottles. BB Tool Box lists and illustrates tools that can be used to prepare bottles for activities. Building Blocks illustrates six different bottle cutting plans using four basic cuts.

Bottle Column Investigations features three projects in decomposition, the land-water connection, and the fermentation of kimchee, a traditional fermented spicy cabbage dish from Korea (similar to German sauerkraut).

The Kimchee Investigation provides background reading that explains the role of the useful microbe Lactobacillus found in yogurt, cheese, buttermilk, soy sauce and critical in the fermenting of kimchee. Additional steps describe how to make a fermentation chamber, prepare and assemble the ingredients, observe and control the process, explore the acid-base and make a pH indicator, and finally smell and taste the kimchee.
