Teacher Resources (MediaSmarts)  are provided by MediaSmarts, a Canadian not-for-profit organization for digital and media literacy for students in grades K-12. The teacher resources can be browsed by grade, resource type (games, guides, lesson plans, tips sheets, and tutorials), topic (10), and media type (5).

Co-Co's AdverSmarts: An Interactive Unit on Food Marketing on the Web  is a game for grades 1-3. Students learn about marketing techniques used on commercial websites by creating a website for Co-Co Crunch, a popular cereal. The resource includes background information for teachers and parents, a teachers guide, suggestions for including parents, and links to computer and mobile or Android versions of the game.

Know the Deal: The Value of Privacy  (6-8) Students learn that most free apps and online services make money by collecting and reselling personal information. The 12-page Lesson Kit  ( PDF) includes visuals and links to video.

Advertising and Male Violence  is a lesson for grades 11-12. Students examine magazine advertising to explore how male violence is used and promoted in advertising. In one activity they create a satirical ad. The 13-page Lesson Kit ( PDF) includes sample magazine ads.

Facing Hate Online  is a professional development tutorial that provides strategies for building critical thinking skills in students. The tutorial can be viewed on computers, iPads, and iPhones.
