Using Smartboards Smartly
January 14, 2009
SMART Boards are a great tool but are often not utilized to their full potential. Many teachers only use them to show movies, Powerpoints, etc. At my school, teachers use the SMART Notebook Software to create their own interactive lessons. They also use Kidspiration to create lessons on the board. These programs allow the students to interact with the board instead of just watching the board.
Many teachers also scan worksheets and use e-books on their SMART Boards. In the mornings you will see many classrooms with Daily Oral Language or Test Practice Questions on the SMART Board. You can also pull up any software that you have on the computer such as Microsoft Word or any educational software such as Reading Blaster. There are many great ways to use the board.
If you don't have time to create your own lessons, SMART has lots of lessons that you can download from their website. You should also check out their new student version of the Notebook Software. If you have another type of board, you can use it in many of the same ways. ACTIV boards also come with great software and have lessons on their website as well.
