To Space and Back
January 21, 2009
"To prevent winter doldrums, we are participating in the NASA cloud cover project. The CERES satellite passes over our town at roughly 10:30 each day. We file out daily to the exterior doorway and check the cloud cover, temperature, precipitation, and barometer readings. We report this information after taking a vote on the cloud type and height of clouds. My students are enjoying the 5-minute stretch and the experience. We also sent away for seeds from NASA, and they sent us seeds that traveled to space and seeds that were Earth-bound as a control group. We are going to start growing them now that winter break is over and watering is not a problem. Students will keep track of observations such as height, color, etc. I expect them to be just as excited with this new activity.”
