Attendance Without Calling Roll

August 11, 2009

I use a seating chart so I can quickly take attendance without having to call roll. I keep the charts in my attendance book for easy access and for a sub to use. I've used Post Its in the past but found that in high school, it took forever to cut all of those Post Its and write out the names. Now I use sheets of cardstock with an overhead sheet clipped on top of them. I draw blank squares on the overheads and hole-punch the charts. I use my erasable markers to write names and can easily change them as needed. When I change seating assignments, I just put the sheets out and students find their seats before the bell. Projecting it would be ideal, but it would be backwards.

I like the idea of the ease-of-use of the page protector by Michele. Good idea, Lynda!

I found using a plastic page protector is much better than an overhead sheet. The card stock will not move as easily and you can still use the erasable marker on the plastic page protector.
