My district sends out a weekly e-newsletter, and last spring there was a tag line “follow us on Twitter.” I logged-on to Twitter and created an account. I use it to post the assignments for the day. It’s quick and easy, and the 140 characters are generally enough for my high school math courses.
Not a lot of my students used it last year, but I will be promoting it this fall on my class Web site and in my first day hand-outs. I want to make it difficult for students to claim they didn’t know what the assignment was.
It may be a real plus, because our new geometry book has a companion Web site with many online resources for students and parents. I can post links to that Web site in my tweets to remind students of the online tutorials and the online book. Plus, this should really help me communicate better with students who miss school.
