Facilitating Respectful Discussions

One of the best tips I’ve ever read for facilitating discussions (especially about potentially controversial/heated issues) is to have students, before they can respond themselves, paraphrase the point the person before them made. That keeps everyone listening actively and respectfully rather than just thinking about what they want to say.
