I do my best to connect the topics we study in my art class with careers students could pursue in the future. Clay can be connected to making dishes, and sculpture can be associated with baking and the designs needed for the molds. Planning designs are skills needed in architecture and fashion. Lettering is needed for sign making and advertising. I also have professional artists come and visit the classroom. We’ve hosted silversmiths, sculptors, painters, claybord artists and inventors. It’s important that my students know that art can become more than just a hobby.
