Best Past President
September 24, 2004
My fifth-grade class is planning a mock election. Students will be voting on the Best Past U.S. President. The kids research a President individually and then give a report on why he should be chosen. We have 33 kids in our room, so to shorten the task we have preliminaries at their table groups. They present their nomination to their table, and the table chooses one to go to the Primary. Students will listen to 7 speeches and then vote for their favorite. We haven’t worked out all the steps yet, and we’re not sure we are going to do individual classroom elections or somehow have all four classes involved in the final vote.
