When putting the date on the calendar, a teacher has the perfect opportunity to practice both repeating and growth patterns with students. By using different colored shapes with numbers written on them, the teacher can show repeating patterns with the shapes and colors, and growth patterns with the numbers. Students can count by 2's, 3's, 4's, etc. The teacher can also use the calendar to teach even and odd numbers, primes and composites, multiples, etc.
