Calling Parents for Open House

Found in: back to school; parent-teacher communication

Every September just before back-to-school night, I call and invite each child's family. There is always a guarded voice when the parents or kids respond to my introduction. There's a sign of relief and pure pleasure in the hellos as the parents accept the invitation and thank me. I can actually see their warm smiles as I am hanging up. Besides saying hello and extending the invitation, I reap the benefits of excellent attendance, family participation and a long list of volunteers.
