Compliment Bag

Found In: building trust & community, character, crafts & cooking, routines & procedures

While working as a student teacher in a 4th- and 5th-grade split class, I found the idea of using a compliment bag to be very handy. We had students make and decorate bags and hang them from their desks. Whenever a person was having a bad day or something went wrong and they didnt want to talk about it, all they had to do was pull out a compliment from their bag. These compliments build self-esteem and helped students understand what a compliment is. I saw this work on many students and no classroom interruption took place.
