Our school has one main lab of 25 computers and four mini labs of 10-12 computers in our building. For over 4 years now, we have just used a blank calendar printed out and labeled. All sign-up calendars are in the main lab and teachers can come in and pencil in which dates they need to use the lab. Lab time is scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. The first year, the main lab seemed to be dominated by a few aggressive (and progressive) teachers. This is why our district has seen the need to add the 4 mini labs. The central location works well, so we can see if another lab is available instead of our first choice. We can also see who has checked out the lab and personally ask that teacher if they need all the computers. We can also check with them last minute if we want the lab and they finish their project early. Our secretary then publishes the sign out in our weekly memo for all to see.
