To end computer lab chaos, purchase a set of red, green, and yellow paper cups. Put together a stoplight for each computer station. If the students are doing well, they keep the green cup on the top of the stack. If they are stuck but can work on something else until you get to them, they move the yellow cup to the top. Finally, if they are completely at a standstill, and must have help before they can move on, they use the red cup. It's a great way to cut down on lost time as they wave their hands, and I can see at a glance how they are doing. I also use this strategy during tests.
