Daily Poetry Reading

To help my students improve their oral reading skills and become familiar with poetry, I have one student a day read one self-selected poem a day. Students need to prepare for their poetry reading. Many students use the books, Kids Pick the Funniest Poems and No More Homework! No More Tests! These books are filled with humorous poems selected by Bruce Lansky, an author/editor who runs the Web site Giggle Poetry and is often referred to by fans as “The King of Giggle Poetry.” On Fridays, one of the students reads a selection over the PA system. Students love reading funny poems to their peers!

I would only use the Giggle Poetry site for some ideas. Some of the content is questionable.

Great idea. It also fits in well with Nancie Atwell's poetry lessons.
