A wall outside my classroom is called the “Exemplary Wall.” Students who have earned 100% on any assignment or whose behavior is exemplary are allowed to place a cut-out shape on the wall. This shape (usually a die-cut construction paper shape) bears the student’s name and achievement and allows recognition by students, teachers and visitors. Our Exemplary Wall becomes so full that it is cleared monthly. Each child is then able to take his/her own shapes home to share with family.

I use a tree. The shape of the month becomes the "leaves" on the branches. Some years I've sent home a cut out at the same time theirs went up on the tree. Those years we kept the "leaves" all year and used them for graphing activities. I hadn't used it for behavior, what a great idea! I work with the students to make sure that everyone has at least one each month.

Great idea. I like the idea of representing students success to all. What happens when that certain population of your class does not make a hundred? What incentives are in place for those to keep trying?
