Family Literacy Center

Found in: parental involvement; reading

I am a Title One teacher who recently received a grant to start a Family Literacy Center. Our center is open two evenings each week to accommodate our parents who work. Parents visit with their children. While the children receive one-on-one tutoring from another reading specialist, I show parents how to help their children at home. I wish I had the luxury of an empty classroom but I share a space with the library. This is a challenge, but I have some adult-sized furniture for the parents.
