Integrating Technology and Writing Composition

Teaching students to compose an essay can be a daunting task. For the past two years, our district has implemented Write On (, an innovative staff development project that emphasizes the use of technology to improve composition skills in grades 3, 4, and 5. Participating teachers meet monthly and learn engaging activities that integrate technology into the writing process. Teachers also utilize the monthly meeting time to journal about their previous month's experiences and create new resources that are posted online for all to share. The Write On website contains hundreds of activities that focus on language arts, composition, and cross curriculum writing in the areas of science and social studies.
