Introducing Social Studies

Here's a tip I got from some great teachers at the California Council for the Teaching of Social Studies for introducing students to the concept of social studies. I learned of the G.P.E.R.S. (pronounced 'geepers') System. All cultures can be analyzed with this tool, and kids quickly see how everything is covered under the umbrella of social studies. G stands for geography, P for politics, E for economics, R for religion, and S for society which includes art, architecture, social structure, recreation, etc.
