Literature about the Old West

November 03, 2004
From Marjorie, a teacher at Mason Middle School in Mason, Ohio

If you're teaching literature about the Old West, here's an idea that might help you introduce the unit to high school students. An idea that I had and used successfully was to show a tape of an original Lone Ranger episode with the sound off. The students were to take brief notes, listing what they thought was happening. We then discussed their ideas before I showed them the episode with the sound. So, 'with a cloud of dust and a mighty hi-ho, Silver,' have fun!
