This tip is for those teachers who still use chalkboards instead of whiteboards. I discovered that if you get the BIG porous sidewalk chalk and soak it in water, you can write on the board and it's barely visible at first. You can then blow on it or wave your hand over it and the writing 'magically' appears. I tell my classes that it's 'magic chalk' and they're totally engaged. It's something that I use only periodically for emphasis on a particular point on which I want them to focus. It's fun and adds a little humor to the class. Hard, non-porous chalk doesn't work but it does write without the proverbial 'squeeeeeeeeek'. Yet another bonus.
