Money Exchange

August 24, 2005

My students have colored cards that they change if they do not follow the classroom rules. The objective is to stay on green each day. If they do, they get a penny, which they keep in a film canister labeled with their name. When they get 5 pennies they trade it for a nickel, 2 nickels for a dime, etc. At the end of the month they get to go to the class store and spend the money they earned. By the end of the year my children can count money and exchange it for equal amount. Some have even learned to save their money for something special that they want to buy.
