Motivating Game
September 22, 2004
Here's a great motivating way to keep kids on task as you go through an assignment. I call it the die game. It's useful when we're correcting answers or reading a science text and filling out a packet. If a student gets the correct answer, I let them roll a die. I post the reward for each possible number on the board. For example:
- 1=Dum Dum lollipop
- 2=sticker
- 3=class reward ticket
- 4=handful of pizza goldfish
- 5=move your seat for the period
- 6=zip, zilch, nada, nothing!
Sometimes, I let the kids help me decide the rewards. It hardly takes any time and it keeps the kids highly motivated.
