Musical Algebra

I teach my Algebra 2 class how to remember the quadratic formula by using the tune of “Pop Goes the Weasel”:

x equals negative b
plus or minus the square root
of b squared minus four a c
all over 2 a.

Here's the quadratic formula if you don't recognize it: x = [-b +/- square root (b^2 - 4ac)]/[2a]. It caught on with all the teachers, and students come back after years still remembering the quadratic formula and the song.

It's a HUGE hit with my students!
