Orderly Coming and Going

Found in: routines & procedures

Our new principal reorganized arrival and dismissal to be safe and orderly. Students enter through the main entrance with all non-classroom teachers as hall monitors. Last year students entered and left by the door closest to their classroom. The new procedure allows for friendly greetings and gentle reminders of proper hallway behavior. Classroom teachers are in their classrooms to greet the students and start the day.

For dismissal, classes are lined up and escorted by classroom teachers down the main corridor to the main entrance. Again hall monitors can give reminders of behavior and also friendly wishes for a good weekend or 'see you tomorrow.' The order of class dismissal is determined by proximity to the main door, not by grade level. This provides safety and orderliness to the beginning and ending of each day.
