As a sub, I need to get students' attention readily and keep them focused on 'good behavior.' I put a brightly-colored Post-It on everyone's desk the first part of the day. The students then write their name on the Post-It. If they cooperate throughout the day, their Post-It is then placed on the blackboard at the end of the day for their teacher to see the following day, under the headline, 'Great Students!' If a student needs a warning, I move his/her Post-It to a 'warning' area of the blackboard. When he/she earns back the Post-It, I tear off a little corner of the note to remind me and him/her that they've received one warning.
