I have six electric pencil sharpeners distributed throughout the classroom. When students enter in the morning, they turn in assignments and sharpen 3-4 pencils to use throughout the day. We call this power sharpening. They then should be ready for the whole day without needing to sharpen their pencils. If, by chance, they need to sharpen pencils during work time, I have three small silent sharpeners they can use in one area of the classroom. Students rarely need to use the silent sharpeners. One of our student jobs is 'Pencil Sharpener Emptier', so the sharpeners do not overflow.
