Our school's recycling program (funded by the sale of aluminum and used printer cartridges) provided inexpensive green wastebaskets with swinging lids for each classroom in our district that agreed to participate in a program to collect paper for recycling. On the lid of each is attached a laminated list of acceptable and unacceptable items. One class in each school has volunteered to be the weekly 'collectors' who go around to each classroom, gather the paper for recycling, and deliver it to the nearby collection area in town. The recycling fund is used to reward these classes with a donut breakfast, Earth day shirts, and special recognition on Earth Day each year. This works GREAT for us and helps us model recycling for our students!
