I have organized our school's mock election every fall for the last five years, involving about 20 teachers and 400-500 students. We follow the guidelines from the National Mock Election (www.nationalmockelection.org/) Web site, general political sites and national party sites. Additionally, I have developed and shared with our teachers a variety of activities that they can easily incorporate into their curriculum. We hold our school election about a week before the national election, decorating our school's lobby with voting posters, flags and red, white and blue bunting. Many teachers invite local candidates to speak to their classes, as well. Our students have become much more involved in the political process and have deepened their understanding of the importance of the civic responsibility to vote!
